New Mexico Tax Holiday 2011

The New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday in 2011 is from Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7.  That means you don’t pay Gross Receipts tax on qualifying items – a boon if you have kids at school. Purchases exempt from gross receipts tax during the tax holiday include:

  • Clothing or shoes priced less than $100 per unit/per pair
  • Desktop, laptop, or notebook computers, including tablets, under $1,000
  • Certain computer hardware items under $500 (such as a printer, mouse, keyboard, monitor, microphone, speakers, ink cartridges etc.)
  • School supplies priced under $15 per unit
  • School backpacks and calculators priced less than $100 per unit

But, you still have to pay tax on phones, PDAs, iPods / MP3 players, musical instruments, and games including computer games. See what’s taxable and nontaxable in the PDF on the NM Gross Receipts Tax Holiday page.
