If you’re flying in or out of Albuquerque this fall, the Southwest Airlines sale has some pretty good deals on travel between August 23 and December 14, 2011, flying on any day except Fridays and Sundays. You must book by August 1, 2011. Sample one way fares to or from Albuquerque during the sale period include:
- $39 El Paso
- $49 Tucson and Denver
- $59 Phoenix
- $94 San Diego
- $99 Houston and Dallas
- $104 Los Angeles and Las Vegas
These are just a few that I’m seeing, there are many more cities in the sale. Book Southwest Airlines sale flights directly with Southwest.com. Expect some regulation fees to apply in addition to the fares, and some blackout dates around Labor Day and Thanksgiving. But you do get two free check-in bags with Southwest flights!
The New Mexico Gross Receipts Tax Holiday in 2011 is from Friday, August 5 through Sunday, August 7. That means you don’t pay Gross Receipts tax on qualifying items – a boon if you have kids at school. Purchases exempt from gross receipts tax during the tax holiday include:
- Clothing or shoes priced less than $100 per unit/per pair
- Desktop, laptop, or notebook computers, including tablets, under $1,000
- Certain computer hardware items under $500 (such as a printer, mouse, keyboard, monitor, microphone, speakers, ink cartridges etc.)
- School supplies priced under $15 per unit
- School backpacks and calculators priced less than $100 per unit
But, you still have to pay tax on phones, PDAs, iPods / MP3 players, musical instruments, and games including computer games. See what’s taxable and nontaxable in the PDF on the NM Gross Receipts Tax Holiday page.
Rent two movies at Redbox by July 31, 2011, and get another free Redbox DVD movie rental for one night. To get the free movie, rent two regular price movies from any Redbox kiosk in ONE transaction, or reserve the movies online. After paying at the kiosk, enter your email address. On August 1, they’ll email a code for a free one-night DVD rental, valid through August 14.
Movie buffs may take up the offer once a day until July 31, 2011, as as long two movies are rented in a single transaction. Rentals using another promo code or web credits don’t qualify.
New customers can also try Redbox free by entering the coupon code: DVDONME at Redbox kiosks. The code gets you a free one-night DVD rental, or $1 off a Blu-ray Disc or game rental. This is ONLY at kiosks – the code isn’t valid for bookings at the Redbox website. There’s no expiry date showing, but check the Redbox Freebies and Deals page if you’re reading this way in the future, to check the code is still valid.
Find Santa Fe Redbox kiosk locations, and note that the deals are only for a one night rental. To avoid being charged for a second night, return DVDs on time, or it rather defeats the point of the freebie!
