1957 Miss Atomic Bomb from Las Vegas, Nevada
I missed the “duck and cover” era by a few years, but I remember Cold War civil defense drills, and I dig all retro decor from the atomic era. Now the Los Alamos Historical Society is debuting a traveling exhibit called “The Life Atomic: Growing Up in the Shadow of the A-Bomb.” According to the museum’s website, “The Life Atomic illustrates the impact of the atomic bomb on everyday life through photographs and objects, in ways both serious and light-hearted. From civil defense warnings to B-movie posters and “atomic” toys, “The Life Atomic” shows the many ways the bomb influenced life in the 1950s and early 1960s.”
As far as I’m concerned, this is a must-see exhibition! Best of all, admission is free.
