Coronado State Monument Free Admission Days for NM Residents & Free Talks for All

Coronado State Monument’s ceremonial Painted Kiva in Bernalillo opens again to the public on Sunday June 6, 2010 after three years of closure due to structural problems, and New Mexico residents get free admission to see it and the historic murals on opening day and every Sunday!

Regular adult admission to Coronado State Monument is $3, which is a good deal in itself, and admission is always free for children aged 16 and under.

But New Mexico residents get free admission to the monument on Sundays – just bring your ID.

New Mexico Seniors with ID also visit for free on Wednesdays.

If you’re not a resident, or if you want to visit on a different day, it’s worth noting that a $5 combo ticket gives admission to both Coronado and Jémez State Monument. (Jémez State Monument, 43 miles north of Bernalillo, has the same free admission policies for kids, NM residents on Sunday, and NM seniors on Wednesday.)

Free Twilight Talks on the Portal are free for all in 2010

You don’t need to pay admission to the monument to hear this new free series, which also includes light refreshments, but there are limited spaces available and you must reserve in advance – RSVP with details at each link. Each talk is from 7 to 8 pm.

Saturday June 12: Twilight Talk on the Portal: Navajo Long Walk 1862-1868
Saturday July 10: Twilight Talk on the Portal: Billy the Kid and the Lincoln County War
Saturday August 14: Twilight Talk on the Portal: El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro
